Since 2000, these are some of the Finals MVP performances that really stand out to me, and was wanting some opinions on whose was the “best”. Since I’m asking “Which player” specifically, I won’t be repeating players who won multiple FMVP’s, I tried to pick their best series.

- Shaq - 2000. It was hard to pick one series from Shaq’s FMVP 3 peat, but his 2000 finals was monstrous. Averaged 38/16.7 with 2.7 blocks and a FG% of .61. Had 3 40+ point games and 2 20+ rebound games, including a 40/24 game in game 2. Lakers beat the Pacers 4-2.

I picked LBJ’s 2016 FMVP for two reasons: Even though he averaged 28.6/10.2/7.4 against the Thunder in 2012, his 3 point percentage was atrocious (.188), and in 2020, he had a lot of help from AD (LBJ-30/12/9, AD-25/11/3). In 2016, LBJ averaged 29.7/11.3/8.9 in Cleveland’s historic 3-1 comeback against the Warriors. He put up 40+ in games 5 and 6 and capped off the series with a 27/11/11 triple double.

- Kawhi Leonard - 2019. Averaged 28.5/9.8/4.2 with two steals and a block. Also shot 58-64 from the line that series. Raptors beat the Warriors 4-2.

- Giannis Antetokounmpo - 2021. Averaged 35.2/13.2/5 with 1.2 steals and 1.8 blocks. Capped of the series with a 50/14 game which saw him block 5 shots and shoot 16-25 from the field and 17-19 from the line. Bucks won 4-2 over the Suns.

- Nikola Jokic - 2023. 30.2/14/7.2. Like LBJ in 2020, Jokic had a lot of help from Jamaal Murray (21.4/6.2/10). But those numbers from a 7 footer on .583/.421/.838 splits speak for themselves. What makes it better is that he was probably thinking about horses the whole time.

I tried picking players that REALLY stood out. If I totally blanked on a couple please call me out for being a casual.

Edit: Kawhi and KD probably could’ve stayed off the list. I also didn’t add Curry in 2022 because of Jayson Tatum’s terrible/inefficient offense in that series… but that probably wasn’t a valid reason to leave him off. I also threw in Kobe, because I felt I had to at least throw him in the mix.

Underrated how? He’s pretty much universally loved, respected, and a highly decorated player (NBA & NCAA). He’s a consensus top 3 player at his position, considered one of the greatest players ever, and HOF bound.

The second best offense player on that 2003 Spurs team was a 20-year old Tony Parker, who averaged 14 ppg on 38.6% shooting. That 2003 run doesn't get talked about enough as a Hakeem-level carry job.

This is really a race for second because coming back from 3-1 against a 73-9 team while almost averaging a triple double is hard to beat.

I'd say Giannis for second. I really think that finals still doesn't get as much respect as it should from an individual standpoint. The Suns were clear favorites (like -160) and Holiday was a no show like always on offense. It was essentially Giannis playing like superman on both ends of the court. Then game 6 which was pretty much a must win with game 7 in Phoenix he drops 50 to close it out. No one else showed up from the Bucks and Giannis just took over.

Shaq was insanely impressive against the Pacers but that series had some of the most lobsided odds ever. The Lakers were like -2000 going into it or something absurd like that. Beating a team that's better than your team on paper but you win because the FMVP was just so fucking dominant goes a long way IMO.

至于第二嘛，我会选字母哥，从个人表现的角度看，字母哥的那次总决赛表现没有得到它本该有的尊重！太阳队当时是夺冠热门（当时赔率好像是-160），而霍乐迪在进攻端几乎一直是隐身的，雄鹿队在攻防两端基本上全靠字母哥的超人表现！当时的G6是雄鹿必须要赢下来的比赛，因为如果输了的话，G7就要回太阳主场打，在这种情况下，字母哥在G6轰下50分带走比赛结束了系列赛！雄鹿队其他人没有一个人能站出来，就字母哥一个人在大杀特杀！

奥尼尔在2000年总决赛的表现疯得一批，不过那次总决赛两队的实力差距罕见的一边倒，总决赛开始前，湖人的夺冠赔率简直离谱，好像是-2000还是啥的。

所以在我看来，面对一支纸面实力强于你的球队，你们击败了他们，并且原因是你们的FMVP实在太TM强了，这才更能体现FMVP的价值啊！

im gonna go with giannis on this one. man's almost out of the finals with that knee injury, came back like it was nothing game, dropped back to back 40 point double doubles, the legendary block in game 4, the crazy sequence in game 5, and the 50-piece to end the 50-year drought. what a poetic ending

Yea but that Suns team was the weakest team to come out of the west in this century. They had a cakewalk path due to injuries to AD, Murray, and Kawhi. It is not like he beat the warriors or even a lebron / AD Lakers, he beat up on Ayton.

Bron imo. Not the most efficient, or the highest scoring but the context makes that series performance like his magnum opus. 30/11/9/3/2 against a 73-win GSW team and averaged more pts/reb/ast/stls/blks than anyone from either team as he led Cleveland to a championship through a 1-3 deficit comeback. Had potentially the best 3 game stretch from games 5-7.

I also think with the others you mentioned, 2022 Steph should be here. His performance was def all time. And series momentum changed after he led GSW to tie the series up in game 4 to avoid going down 3-1.

Free throws don’t always come up because it isn’t as sexy of a stat, but Dirk having a 97.8% free throw percentage in the 2011 finals sticks out to me.

Shaq. Yes the circumstances specifically around LeBron in 2016 coming back from 3-1 gives him a case but the problem with that is that punishes Shaq for not going down 3-1 and dominating the series from start to finish. The way LeBron played in those final three games was how Shaq played the entire Finals.

I think Shaq is a clear 1 followed by LeBron and then Giannis. If we’re talking about a full Playoff run Duncan has a strong case but as it’s just the Finals I think he’s below the others. I think Wade’s performance given the load he carried was incredible also.

KD does not deserve a shout. he was extremely enabled by Curry’s off ball gravity. when you benefit from a top 10-15 (realistically there’s 15 dudes people argue for top 10) player of all time at his peak playing next to you you don’t really get to say your finals performance was super impressive.
